The Way of Tea
Japan's vibrant tea culture known as chanoyu (also, tea ceremony
and chado) is a distillation of many of the finest aspects of
Japanese culture - its arts, its cuisine, its hospitality, its philosophy.
Transmitted since the 16th century in adherence with the
principles of harmony, respect, purity and tranquility, chanoyu
provides spiritual contemplation and artistic inspiration through
the medium of powdered green tea.
Whether you are a first-time guest or an experienced tea
practitioner, come savor the way of mindfulness, beauty, and
tranquility that is at the heart of Japanese culture.
EWCC offers weekly university and community classes, seasonal
chanoyu tea gatherings (chakai), and monthly museum tea
demonstrations. Please contact EWCC to arrange a special
chanoyu presentation for your organization.
The East-West Chanoyu Center (formerly Urasenke Seattle
Branch) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization serving
the broader community since 1981.
